OBH Coffee machine and kettle
Design study for a series of electric kitchen appliances for OBH Nordica, starting with coffee machine and kettle. The approach of this study was to combine the cool materials and colours of traditional Scandinavian design with a more vivid formal language. The aim was to show the roots of the Northern design tradition while softening the overall expression in order to hit a broader market.
Apart from the renderings shown here, we also made turnaround animations and CAM-milled foam models in our own model workshop for this project.
OBH kitchen series
Collection of design concepts for kitchen series with kettle and toaster for OBH Nordica, who wanted our vision of a series of electric kitchen appliances for the coming decade. These concepts are a good illustration of our working method when it comes to developing new designs: We start off with a brainstorm, sketching a great number of possible solutions to the design assignment. Next, we pick the best of these sketches and develop them into design skin concepts on a level like the ones shown on the pictures, where we have not yet taken all of the technical aspects into account, but which gives a god overall impression of the design. This collection of three to seven different concepts is shown to the client, who picks one or more to be developed into a final design.
Medical centrifuge
A medical centrifuge for separating liquids from solids. The basis of this design has been the user situation in the laboratory, where the handling of the centrifuge should be as simple and straightforward as possible. We have tried to communicate this through an unobtrusive, straight design which emphasizes the fact that this product is a tool for professionals in the medico and other research businesses.
Jamo subwoofer series
How do you create an expression of power and coolness for a product which is basically a laminate-covered chipboard box? That was Jamo's assignment to us when we created these concepts for subwoofers made for Jamo's chipboard-based production line. The subwoofers would combine with a corresponding series of satellites to make a collection of speaker systems for the company's youngest target group.
We solved the assignment by exploiting the graphic potential of the laminate and adding large injection molded plastic covers with details like large knobs and ribs which communicate power and technology.
Jamo satellite speakers
Speaker series for a young market, designed to be combined with the series of subwoofers above. With this concept series, we wanted to give Jamo the choice between loud-looking speakers for primary male rock and hip hop listeners and more quiet designs for a female audience with a quieter taste. The satellites were all designed with matching floor, table and wall stands.
All speakers including the subwoofers were made as full scale models and exhibited in a scenography of four stylized teenage rooms representing the different market segments.
Outdoor furniture
Light stacking chair and table set in stainless steel and teak for the garden created for Tommy Larsen. From the many design concepts we've made for this project, we are particularly happy about the two shown in the pictures: One set of furniture in a strictly formalistic design and another in a more relaxed overall organic shape, each referring to different style periods and aiming at slightly different markets.
We have finished the engineering of the more formalistic of the two concepts, solving the tolerance issues that arise when combining the living material of wood with the stiffer stainless steel in industrial production.
Coat hangers
Three concepts for coat racks created for Sangill:
Red injection moulded plastic coat rack, designed to target a younger market segment. To be delivered in a number of strong signal colours, making this coat hanger ideal for the children bedroom.
Keyhole-shaped coat rack based on one piece of laser cut stainless steel with injection molded or wooden insert to add softness to the minimalist design.
Modular cast aluminium rack where the basic module can be combined different kinds of wood in varnish and nature finish.
Consumer electronics
In the large field of consumer electronics, we have created concepts for weather stations for Oregon Scientific (Hong Kong) who also produces the award-winning OBH weather station series designed by Spin Doc Design & Engineering partner Michael Frederiksen; trekking-oriented outdoor units for the same company; a Capsule Clock concept for Tone CPH and many others.
Lighting
Over the years, we have designed a variety of light fixtures for companies like Thorn & Jakobsson, Louis Poulsen and Horn. Some have made it to the market, some have not. Shown here is a selection of concepts for circular large room fixtures, LED-based wall fixtures, pendant lamps and outdoor bollard fixtures.
Bar clamp
Two proposals for bar clamps for Sangill:
One is non-technical design where pump function, jaws and power structure are integrated in one unifying figure. With the design suggestion are we trying to make this tool to a forthcoming object, which provides good protection an at the same time helps to finish the job quickly and efficiently.
The other proposal has a slimmer, more naked design, providing more room for the jaws in tight places. The holes and stiffening edges gives a more technical and professional impression.
Damixa kitchen faucets
Two concepts for advanced kitchen faucets for the modern kitchen, where we have attempted to cut down the design elements to an absolute minimum without sacrificing ease of use and ergonomy.
In a project like this, we wil usually start out with making a rough full scale sketch of the internal components before we start creating the design sketches. This ensures a good degree of realism in the proportions and dimensions of the design proposals without locking us to a fixed mechanical configuration.
Tone CPH New Scandinavian Basics
A series of product concepts for Tone CPH aimed at the gift and home decoration market. The product concept range consists of hot plates, carafe and glass, plate, sushi board, cups and other basic products for home and kitchen.
In parallel with designing the product concepts, we have developed a graphic and packaging identity for Tone CPH.
